Corporate treasury covers key areas such as financing, liquidity, cash management and financial risk. As treasury is closely connected to different parts of an organisation, treasurers work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. UBS Institute’s one-day Corporate Treasury Fundamentals programme introduces you to the fundamentals of corporate treasury and the environment in which treasury operates. You will learn about the role of the treasurer, key treasury concepts and the financial instruments applied in treasury. The programme is practical in nature and uses case studies throughout the day.
What will you gain from this programme?
By the end of the programme, you will understand the role of treasury within an organisation and the key responsibilities of the treasurer. You will have a solid foundation in financing, credit risk, financial risk and cash management, as well as an understanding of treasury in large and multinational companies. You will also learn about current applications of AI in treasury, including cash forecasting, payment fraud detection and working capital optimisation. You will also develop a stronger understanding of treasury issues and be able to communicate effectively with the professionals and organisations involved in treasury.

Programme
The programme is centred around a case study of a company, viewed from the perspective of the treasurer. You will examine the company’s activities and cash flows, including how these cash flows can vary depending on the type of business and sector. This provides the basis for understanding the treasury issues that can arise in different business environments. Corporate financing is covered in relation to both debt and equity, followed by credit risk, financial engineering and an introduction to financial risk. You will gain insight into the risks and responsibilities of the treasurer, the skills required for the role and the financial instruments applied in treasury. The programme also covers treasury in large and multinational companies, as well as the fundamentals of cash management. Throughout the day, practical examples provide insight into both effective and less effective treasury practices. Together, these topics provide a broad overview of the key areas of corporate treasury within a single day.
