Outcomes of the programme

After completing the programme Product & Portfolio Management, you will be able to independently design, manage and execute product and portfolio policy. You will understand the strategic and operational implications of your decisions and know how to translate product strategy into structured and effective execution.

You will be able to maintain control over day to day product management activities, intervene at the right moments and adjust direction where necessary. In addition, you will be up to date with current insights in research, product development, financial planning and marketing.

Programme structure

The programme Product & Portfolio Management runs over approximately three months and consists of 10 classroom sessions of three hours each. The programme is delivered on location to groups of 10 to 15 participants. The programme combines lectures with applied assignments, allowing participants to directly apply concepts and tools to their own case.

Day 1: Strategy, Organisational Policy, and the Role of Product Management (Classes 1 and 2)
Day 1 focuses on developing a clear understanding of your role as a product manager within the organisation. Attention is given to the strategic context, organisational policy and the positioning of product management within these frameworks. Topics include market segmentation, consumer insights, concept development, R& D expectations and value proposition design.

Day 2: Product Development, Planning, and Product Launch (Classes 3 and 4)
You will learn how to move effectively from concept to product launch. The sessions cover key areas linked to product management, including market research, financial planning, product development  and marketing. Particular attention is given to aligning internal stakeholders. You will also learn how to develop a robust and actionable product plan.

Day 3: Product and Portfolio Management (Classes 5 and 6)
Day 3 focuses on maintaining control over the product management process. Key questions include how products retain or lose their relative market positions and how to respond effectively. You will also examine how competitive advantage can be strengthened and how portfolio level decisions should be addressed. The financial aspects play a crucial role as well. You will learn how to develop a financial business plan for your product portfolio, how to calculate budgets and how to maintain financial control.

Day 4: Organisational Culture and Internal Resistance (Classes 7 and 8)
You will learn how to implement product and portfolio strategy within the organisation. Topics include organisational culture, identity and values, internal resistance, stakeholder alignment and change management. Practical methods and instruments are provided to support effective execution, with a strong focus on understanding organisational dynamics and power structures.

Day 5: Implementation of Product and Portfolio Policy (Classes 9 and 10)
The last day of the programme focuses on preparing the organisation for the implementation of product and portfolio strategy. You will learn how to define objectives, manage execution, and maintain control over the entire implementation process. The programme concludes with a detailed focus on monitoring and performance management, including KPIs, metrics, and structured approaches to evaluation and course correction.
