In certain cases, to achieve established organizational objectives, it may be necessary to change the course of the organization. This typically implies organizational change. To successfully implement a change process, it is necessary to have sufficient knowledge, insight, and skills. Without these, an initiated change can result in serious consequences. After all, you are dealing with existing structures, sentiments, cultures, values, and a political landscape. Upon completion of the training, you will know exactly what is needed to change an organization and have the right management skills to successfully implement and ensure change.
Utrecht Business School, located in Utrecht the Netherlands, has developed a unique Change Management & Leadership program (post HBO) in collaboration with instructors from academia and successful entrepreneurs in various fields. In just three months, you will gain knowledge and tools to refine your leadership skills to the extent that you will be able to effectively lead a change process and ensure the changes.
What are the key topic of the program?
- What trends and developments exist in the field of change management?
- What insights and concepts exist in the realm of change management?
- How can I formulate an effective change strategy?
- How can I successfully implement the change strategy in the organization?
- What role do leadership, culture, values, and politics play in change?
- What skills are required to successfully implement the change process?
- How do I measure the effectiveness of the change strategy?
What will I gain from the program?
After completing the program, you will be able to independently execute the change strategy. You will be able to devise a strategy aligned with the company’s strategy. You will know how to initiate an effective change process and how to steer the organization in a desirable direction. You will be aware of the (im)possibilities certain management styles have for the success of change processes. You will also know how to deal with internal resistance and changing existing structures. You will be aware of the success factors of change leaders and how to implement successful change. Lastly, you will gain the latest knowledge about change management.
What does the program entail?
The program is designed to provide you with as much practical knowledge about leadership and change management as possible in a relatively short period of time. You will reason throughout the program from a business perspective. During your education/thesis, you will be guided by a head lecturer. The head lecturer will be available for your questions and comments throughout the program and will support you where necessary. The head lecturer will assess you at the end of the program. The program lasts approximately 3 months and consists of 10 lectures. The number of participants is limited to 10-15 participants, so that we can provide sufficient personal attention. The program, particularly the central themes, are as follows:
Day 1: Business Strategy and Change Management (lectures 1 and 2)
During this lecture, you will learn how to lay the right strategic foundations to develop a successful change strategy for your organization. You will gain new knowledge and insights about organizational theory, change management, and HRM. Finally, you will learn what steps are necessary for a successful rollout, how to compose a proper change strategy, and how to ultimately maintain control over the renewal process.
Day 2: The Change Process; Structures, Systems, and Alignment (lectures 3 and 4)

You will learn how to better and more effectively organize change processes, how to deal with existing structures and systems, and how to change them and (re)align them with the business strategy. Furthermore, you will gain new knowledge and insights about managing the change process and be educated about integration and implementation aspects of the change strategy.
Day 3: Organizational Culture, Resistance, and Behavioral Change (lectures 5 and 6)
During this lecture, you will learn how to internally implement your change strategy. You will gain new knowledge and insight about organizational culture, identity and values, internal resistance, creating support, and behavioral change. What makes them winners in the field of change management and what sets them apart from others? Other questions that will be answered: Which management styles are most effective in which business environments, and which style would best suit your situation? You will gain insight into your current management skills and be refreshed on specific aspects. Finally, you will be presented with examples of successful change projects and implementations through some best practices and cases.
Day 5: Implementation and Realization of Change Policy (lectures 9 and 10)
During this lecture, you will learn how to concretely prepare the organization for the implementation of a change strategy. You will learn how to set objectives, prepare your change team and manage it, how to integrate existing systems with the new systems, but above all: how to maintain control over the entire change process. Finally, you will be refreshed on all ins and outs of the monitoring process. What KPIs are being monitored, what metrics are being used, when does the process need adjustment, how do you deal with it, how do certain analytics programs work, and how do achieved partial results contribute to the whole?
Who can apply for the program?
This program is intended for professionals who want to develop themselves in the field of leadership in relation to change management. The program is an executive training, meaning a certain level of work and thinking is necessary. Typically, our participants have backgrounds in business administration or organizational management, 5 to 15 years of relevant work experience, and a postgraduate level of thinking. In principle, everyone is free to participate, however, our experience shows that optimal learning outcomes are achieved with ample work experience. Given the capped number of participants, a selection process is necessary.
